Overview

My name is Livenya Sree Vegain. I am from Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. First and foremost of all, I would want to sincerely thank the organizing committee for shortlisting me as an awardee for the title “Excellent Lifetime Achievement Award” of Women Icon powered by Times Women. Let me walk you through my life journey.

I am a recent Graduated Gold Medalist in the three year Master Degree of Bioethics program from the Harvard University, Boston, USA. I am such a person who’s constantly wanting a fulfilling career and I also believe that I’m doing everything to reach my lifegoal.

Currently I define myself as a hardworking student, employee and regular volunteer. I have one main belief that I would repeat onto myself of each day and it is “never stop trying to learn and grow”. Each day I would work on developing and molding myself into the final product.

The journey of being prestigiously titled wasn’t an easy one, as my family and I are from the middle class community and the impediment was always there. I strive to find opportunities, to make use of my natural talents and gifts such as acting responsibly, always being punctual and being disciplined.

My ambition was to be a doctor but I wasn’t able to pursue that because of the financial constraint my parents was facing. Instead my parents didn’t give up on my ambition and also motivated me saying that I could be a better person to the community by just not being a doctor. And that's where I enrolled myself in Lincoln University for the Healthcare Studies and I was a Graduate Topper(Dean’s List) when I finished studying.

Then and there I decided to continue my education journey to serve the world the better. I applied for a full scholarship to enroll for Bachelors Degree of Human Development and Family Science majoring in Psychology at the University of Missouri, USA. After multiple interviews, I qualified for the Stamps Scholars Award in the University and started my education there.

While studying there, I was awarded with the Best Dissertation Award of the Year 2017 entitled “Human Development & Family Diversity in Sociocultural Context” in the final year of my course. I would like to thank my Dissertation Advisor Ms. Stephanie Irby Coard for guiding me patiently till I graduated and also for making efforts to get my Dissertation published in order to get me a recognition so that I would be eventually more successful for the future endeavors.

On the go of my good curriculum record, I was offered a seat in the Arden’s University, England with a partial scholarship for the course Neuro-Linguistic Programming with the facility of Blended Online Distance Learning (BODL). I successfully completed this course with a CGPA of 6.0 respectively and I eventually became a record breaker according to the university statistics. I became a Licensed Neuro-Linguistic Programmer upon graduation.

The time that I was waiting came by, that was stepping into the “World of Work”. I went around looking for jobs and eventually was selected by one Employer. My first job was to be a Special Aid Counsellor, where I need to be on the access of the mentally challenging people. I enjoyed working in that challenging environment and it also motivated me to give my best.

As time passed, I started realizing my potential talent and I knew what I was supposed to do next. Moreover, we all know that there is a starting point behind every successful person. As a start up point, I engaged myself with school students whereby I used my Neuro-Linguistic Programming technique as a communication tool in order to make them understand their education pathway.

To my surprise, my startup became a success and many working adults eventually started looking for me requesting me to guide them through their working pathway. It was my privilege to serve people and to guide them all along the journey. All the while, even though my program was running successfully, I didn’t feel full with the achievement I had.

I was always on the run searching for what could make my achievement full and that's when I decided to enroll for a Master Degree. I applied for a Master Degree in Bioethics at The Harvard University, USA. After the long wait, my application was accepted and I attended 5 interviews and written 2 portfolios in order to get a seat in the University.

I passed the 5 interviews and my 2 written portfolios was accepted for the seat. At that point of life, I was financially drained and that was a hurdle for me to continue my journey. I wrote to the University management mentioning what got in to the way and the management guided me throughout the process asking me to apply for the Gordon William’s Scholarship.

Pertaining to the good grades in my Bachelor’s degree course, I received a full scholarship and started my education there as an International Student with Blended Online Distance Learning Facility (BODL). There were a lot of challenges during the course as things was not as easy that I expected.

Eventhough things were really challenging, I was lucky enough to get very supportive Professors and they were the ones always pushing me hard in order for me to succeed. I received a bronze medal for the first semester of my course and was awarded “The Best Student” in the second semester. Moreover, as things went even tougher, I still didn't fail to prove myself as an achiever. In the third and fourth semester I got awarded for the Salutatorian.

As things were nearing to the end, that was for the fifth and sixth semester, I was conferred with Valedictorian together with a Gold Medal upon Graduation. In despite of my studies, I never let down my goal which was my starting point. I continued my career journey (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) while studying and this had taught me many things in life especially. Nevertheless, I have conducted 3 International Conference featuring about 3000 students leading them to their ambitions.

In a nutshell, the most biggest thing that I’ve accomplished in my life is being the first person in my family to attend a university as well as being awarded with this prestigious award. This is so important to me because it makes my family, especially my parents proud.

Last but not least, I would like to thank my parents Mr. Vegain Manogram (father), Mrs. Premah Palaniappan (mother) and Mr. Murali Taran (husband) for always believing in my talents as well as giving me the moral support without fail. As because of them I have reached the world class rank and set a benchmark in the family for the upcoming generation. Next in the row, I’d like to thank all my siblings, grandparents, late grandparents, uncles, aunties and cousins for all the blessings and love they have for me. Also not forgetting my lecturers and professors, Mr. Shafiq Teoh, Mr. Faisal, Professor Stephanie Irby Coard, Professor Melissa Lopes, Professor Rebecca Weintraub, Professor D. Lawrence Bobo.
