Overview

Dr. Nirosha Wedasinghe had acquired her first degree in Computing and Information Systems from London Metropolitan University in the UK in 2005, and her masters from Charles Sturt University  Australia in 2008. Dr. Wedasinghe has obtained her PhD in Information Systems from general Sir John Kotelawala defence University Sri Lanka. At present Dr. Wedasinghe is a Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Computing in General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.

In the past she was awarded as 'Asia's Best Multidisciplinary Research Award 2020 and 2021 ’ from the prestige Asia Award powered by Rula Award. She was an awardee of many other world recognized awards and research grants in the past. In the year 2014 she was awarded with the Best research paper award and best presenter awards in the international conferences. She also received grants to present her Research publication in the IEEE International Conferences   in Bangladesh and Asia Pacific International Research Conference held in Japan 2017.

In the year 2019 and 2021 she represented the country in the Internet governance forum held in Bangladesh. In the year 2021 out of 80 applicants she was selected as a fellow in the Asia-Pacific regional Internet governance forum powered by the UN Department of economic and social affairs. Currently She is an active member of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka and Internet Society of Sri Lanka Chapter. She is the first student patron of the Computer Society student chapter of Sri Lanka. Additionally, she was nominated as a Senior member of the world's largest technical professional organization IEEE. Currently she is a Lifetime Fellow member of International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS) Japan. Furthermore, she is an academic member of Association of Information Systems which is the premier professional association for individuals and organizations who lead the research, teaching, practice, and study of information systems worldwide. 

She Joined the IT Industry in 1997  as a computer programmer. She worked ten years in a capacity of Information Technology Executive in Esquel Group, Chinese textile manufacturing company branded as world’s largest woven shirt maker. In the year 2008 she took a paradigm shift in her career by joining the academic industry after she completed her postgraduate in master’s in information technology. She started her career as a lecturer at IDM Nations Campus which is the First Private educational institute of Sri Lanka in the field of information technology. Other than her teaching and researching contribution she has worked in the capacity of program manager for world recognized International Universities including Charles Sturt University Australia, Wolverhampton University UK. She also works in the capacity of postgraduate programs. During her academic career in IDM, she was appointed as the first research and development manager in the campus and she organized seven conferences in collaboration with University of Wolverhampton. Furthermore, she supervised more than fifty research masters affiliated to the University of Wolverhampton UK. She received appreciation from the University of Wolverhampton- UK for her excellent research capacity and the dedication to research.

She has joined Sri Lanka National Defence University in the year 2012 as a visiting lecturer and in 2013 she has been recruited as a permanent lecturer position. During her career She has held many administrative positions in General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University including the Research Coordinator of the Faculty, the Faculty Student Counselor, the in charge of MBA in E-Governance program, Program coordinator for Information systems Degree program and the Chairperson of curriculum development committee of Faculty of Computing. Additionally, she has been invited to curriculum development committees in the Management faculty and the technology faculties. And, she has been working as a research supervisor for Sri Jayewardenepura University Sri Lanka too.

Her teaching interests include management information systems, E-Governance, Research methodology, System Acquisition management, Organization behaviors, Software engineering and Data science discipline.  She pursued her PhD research in Disability Digital Divide and published more than seventy-five Indexed journal publications and many conference publications at national and international level. She also engaged in the research domain by reviewing research articles in the journals and international conferences. Her contributions to the new knowledge in the technology diffusion area are including a multi perspective framework to overcome the disability digital divide in relation to the visually impaired community.

In her long journey in the IT industry and the academic career She has participated in many management, research and counseling training programs conducted by the different organizations nationally and internationally. Furthermore, she has organized an IEEE inter university quiz program during her mentorship period for IEEE KDU student chapter.

Dr Nirosha by nature is an enthusiastic individual icon with extremely positive minded and helpful. She has been organizing and engaging with many social activities for marginalized people in the Country specifically on technology diffusion. 

Recently she was success of winning the "Best Academician of the Year Award 2021" 

from the Women Icon Award powered by Times women. It is so exciting and an honor to receive the award from this prestigious world recognized organization. This award will encourage and benefit her future career success path. Finally, she has been giving her heartfelt gratitude to Times women icon and times women organization to their due recognition given to her successful career in her journey by assessing in multiple aspects. Finally, she thanked General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University for helping her to make her life a more successful place in this world.
