Overview

Mrs. Dinithi Sandeepanie Vithanage had acquired her first degree in Information Technology (Honours) from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka in 2017 with a first class and her Masters from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, in 2020. She pursued her Masters in Master of Computer Science. Mrs. Dinithi is currently reading for her PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree in Information Technology at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Currently, Mrs. Dinithi is a Lecturer (Probationary) of Information Technology at the Department of Information and Communication Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka.

Mrs. Dinithi has published more than fifteen Research papers nationally and internationally including Indexed Journals, Full Papers and Abstracts. Recently, she presented a research paper on “Cell Association for MTC Devices in 5G Networks: Schemes and Performance Evaluation” at the European Conference on Networks and Communications and 6G – 2021 EuCNC & 6G Summit – which combines two successful conferences in the telecommunications area: EuCNC, the 30th event, supported by the European Commission; and the 6G Summit, 3rd event, originating from the 6G research programme, a pioneering programme in its area.  Apart from that, she has visited the International Conferences on Advancement of Development Administration, Thailand to present her research publications on “An Effective Tea Leaves Diseases Recognition for Novice Planters” and “A Novel Automated Mechanism for Diabetic Retinopathy Recognize in Retinal Images”.  

Mrs. Dinithi received a Scholarship from the University of Agder, Norway as an exchange student to work on her Master’s Research Thesis. The scholarship was awarded by University of Agder in accordance with the EU Erasmus+ Global Mobility program. This was a great opportunity that she received to work with accomplished Professors and thereby broaden her knowledge. Additionally, she came among the Top 20 Finalists at the Cisco Networking Academy Hackathon 2017 in Sri Lanka and Finalist at the Microsoft Imagine Cup Sri Lanka 2016 in the World Citizenship Category. During her undergraduate-period, she was selected for the Vice Chancellor’s List in the years 2013 and 2015 and the Dean’s List in the years 2014 and 2016 in view of her Academic achievements. Furthermore, she is a good pianist and she was awarded several gold and silver medals in several piano-playing competitions. She was awarded the whole Island Championship for Instrument playing and Choir Competitions in Western Music.   

Soon after her first Degree, she joined the IT Industry as a trainee Software Engineer at Sri Lanka Parliament from 2016 to 2017.  She contributed her services to design and develop several automated systems at the Sri Lanka Parliament such as I Parliament (Human Resource Management System), Access Control System (Access Management System) and the Right to Information System (Information Request Management System). She shifted from the IT industry to the Academic Field as her childhood ambition was to be a great academician in the Information and Communication Technology field. She joined the Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka as an Instructor in 2017 and after that she was promoted as a contract-basis Lecturer in 2018 at the same Department. Further, she was recruited to the Department of Information and Communication Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna as a Lecturer (Probationary) in the year 2018.

Her teaching interests include Machine Learning, Image Processing, Telecommunication, Computer Networks and Web Technologies.  Apart from that she supervised undergraduate students in several projects in Information Technology. Further, many undergraduate students under her supervision were published in the several International Research Conferences. Every type of business, small, medium, large and multinational relies heavily on Information Technology. Businesses have been able to ensure security, get rid of unnecessary data duplication, ensure data consistency, create data backups, and ensure quick replication thanks to these alternatives. Technology provides a variety of methods for accelerating development and exchanging information. Both of these things are goals of Information Technology: to make work easier and to solve a variety of problems. Regardless of the research intensity, research computer resources can benefit all universities. With specialized employees and equipment that support cooperation, efficiency, and data storage, IT can enable data-intensive research. Therefore, it is very important to research different new findings in the Information Technology industry, and she always involves, advises, encourages and guides students to make new discoveries.

As a young academician, she is

•  An accomplished educator in the higher education sector with an outstanding track record in assuring student success.

• Seasoned in conceiving and building teaching programs from the ground up.

• Has proven experience in administration, project and program management.

• Engaged in teaching and overlooking large batches of students from diverse cultures and different ethnicities.

• An effective communicator with excellent planning and negotiation skills as well as the ability to lead, reach consensus, establish goals, and attain results.

• A Dedicated, detailed and capable researcher.

• A confident presenter with the ability to explain complex information clearly.

Recently she won the “Young Women Achiever of the Year Award” from the Women Icon Awards, which is sponsored by Times women. Receiving the medal from such a famous and internationally recognized organization is both exciting and an honor. As an academician, this honor will promote and aid her future career success path. Finally, Mrs. Dinithi has expressed her deep gratitude to Times Women icon and the Times Women Organization for their due acknowledgement of her successful profession throughout her path by evaluating her in different areas. Last but not least, she thanked her family members and University of Ruhuna for helping her to make the world a better place.
