Shamala Jayaratnam Has Won Distinguished Lifetime Achiever Award

Shamala Jayaratnam, the founder of Shamala Jayaratnam Academy, is a well-known personality in Sri Lanka. Born and raised in Kandy, she is now based in Colombo. She graduated from Kandy Girls High School and later worked as a middle school art teacher at Mowbray College Kandy. Her passion for teaching led her to complete a degree in preschool education from Open University Kandy. She has been conducting classes since 1999 and has gained much experience teaching various courses.

Shamala Jayaratnam Academy has come a long way since its inception in 1999. The classes started in Wattala and have since expanded to Kotena, Wellewatte, and Kandy. The academy offers courses such as saree blouse, shalwar, aari work, complete dressmaking, novelty cakes, wedding structures, sugar flowers, nail extensions, Brazilian embroidery, ribbon embroidery, quick meals and cooking, art classes, and other handcraft activities. All the sewing methods and designs are made by Shamala Jayaratnam herself. She attended Clement Cake Decorating School to learn about cake decorating and earned many awards at the end of the course.

One of the unique aspects of Shamala Jayaratnam Academy is that there is no minimum qualification required to enter any of the courses, and there is no age limit as long as the students are interested in learning. This makes her classes accessible to many people, from young children to seniors. In addition, after learning her courses, students can take orders and be independent by starting their businesses.

Shamala Jayaratnam Academy has gained recognition over the years through the programs on live television conducted from 2000 to date, for which she is grateful to Rupavahini (Eye Channel/Tamil Channel). She also has her Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube pages under Shamala Jayaratnam Academy. These social media pages let her showcase her work and connect with students and potential clients. 

She has several branches open around Colombo and Kandy, and she recently opened in two locations in Canada last year as well to help women all around the globe.

Shamala Jayaratnam's hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. She has received several awards and recognitions for her contributions to fashion design and teaching. In 2020, she received the Talented Senior Fashion Designer, Dress Maker Businesswomen Award from the Ceylon Tamil Cosmetologist Federation in Sigaramthotta, Tamil Pennamani. Women Icon, World Women Council, and Times Women also awarded her the Distinguished Lifetime Achiever Award. In addition, this council has received the NO. 1 Women's Leadership Excellence Award.

In conclusion, Shamala Jayaratnam is a successful entrepreneur and talented fashion designer who has significantly impacted Sri Lanka. Her academy offers many courses, and her passion for teaching has enabled many students to become independent business owners. Her dedication to her craft and students has earned her numerous awards and recognition, and she continues to inspire and motivate others to pursue their dreams.
