I, Aruni Uthpala Dissanayake, am a passionate and creative individual who is dedicated to using my skills and talents to make a difference in the world. I am a teacher of English, a fashion designer, and an entrepreneur. I am always looking for new ways to express myself and to share my love of learning and creations with others.

My educational journey began with a Diploma and then a Bachelor of Education, which equipped me with the knowledge and skills to effectively work as a teacher. I am passionate about empowering students with strong language skills and nurturing their love for literature. As a dedicated teacher of English, I strive to create an engaging and supportive learning environment that fosters growth and inspires a lifelong love for the English language.

To complement my teaching career, I pursued a Diploma in Fashion Design, delving into the world of design, creativity, fashion, and craftsmanship. This qualification allowed me to explore my passion for fashion and provided a solid foundation for establishing myself as a fashion designer and entrepreneur.

As a lover of arts and design, I have always been drawn to the world of fashion. My passion for discovering new trends and pushing the boundaries of style led me to become a fashion designing entrepreneur.

My journey as a fashion designer and entrepreneur began with a deep love for aesthetics and a desire to create clothing that celebrates every woman's beauty and uniqueness. Inspired by the beauty of traditional batik textile, I embarked on a mission to elevate batik to new heights and showcase its timeless elegance to the world. I founded Tulip Wardrobe with the goal of providing a platform for women to express their uniqueness, confidence, and style through fashion.

Tulip Wardrobe has been at the forefront of the fashion industry for years, creating exquisite designs that blend timeless elegance with contemporary trends. Our collections are a seamless fusion of craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and innovative techniques.

My goal is to expand my brand globally and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of fashion. I believe that fashion is not just about looking good, but also about feeling good and expressing oneself. Through my designs, I strive to empower individuals to express their unique style and personality.

My dedication to excellence in fashion design has been recognized and celebrated with the prestigious Heritage of Asia Award in 2023. This award not only honors me and my brand's commitment to preserving traditional craftsmanship but also acknowledges my ability to infuse innovation and contemporary elements into the luxury handcrafted batiks.

Receiving the Heritage of Asia Award has further motivated me to continue pushing boundaries, exploring new design concepts, and expanding my brand's reach. It serves as a testament to our creativity, craftsmanship, and dedication to promoting cultural heritage through fashion.

The Kandy Esala Perahera of the Sri Dalada Maligawa is a festival most holy to the Buddhists in and around Sri Lanka. It is a festival that draws thousands to the streets of Kandy to witness this magnificent procession and is graced by many glamorous and elegant performers and tuskers alike. In 2022, we have been bestowed with the rare opportunity of designing and crafting the costume of the ceremonial tusker assigned with carrying the Gajanayake Nilame at this procession.

This time, it was after decades that heritage craft has joined with the Sri Lanka’s most famous cultural traditions and its grandest cultural event, the Kandy Esala Perahera, to make a memorable statement of craft and fashion. This year also I had been bequeathed with that rare opportunity which I believe as my luck to commemorate with such a glory.

Last but not least, I’m extraordinarily happy and grateful to receive this prestigious “Creative Entrepreneur of the Year award, 2023”. Moreover, being selected among the most deserved hundred award winners is a dream come true, indeed.
