Overview

First of all  I would like to  Thank  to the Woman Icon  for selecting me  to the award of “Outstanding Performer Award in Beauty Parlor” The category of “Women Entrepreneur Awards”

Born and raised up in Bandarawela town in Uva province on the small island of Sri Lanka, I grew up as a nature-loving girl. While studying at St Mary’s College, Bandarawela, I learned Bharata Natyam classical Dance.

I was keen   to learn about the art of Makeup   during My stage dance events. After completing my schooling, I became interested in beauty related Classes and workshops and learned systematically.

Later I started a small beauty parlor in Bandarawela.   After marriage, I came to the city of Hatton, Nuwara Eliya district and started a beauty salon at home with the cooperation of my husband.

In order to learn new things in this field day by day, I learned not only the face Makeup but also hair cutting and skin care techniques.

The area where I live is a Hill country    with large plantation tea estates. There are many people living below the poverty line here. I offer my services to these people free of charge when they approach me for some of the auspicious events taking place in their homes such as Weddings, Puberty ceremony and birth days.

Many young women in that community were eager to learn Beauty culture. The hill Country centre of Loyola Campus in India Tamil Nadu located in Hatton provided the best facilities for that Community.

This Organization call, CSC (Centre for Social concern) which conducts many free skill Training classes to help the women of Plantation area, to increase their livelihood in various way. They approached me and asked me to work as an Instructor of Cosmetology to the concerned young women. Accordingly, I have been conducting these classes at the said Organization for the past two years.

It gives me satisfaction. It is a joy that we are supporting those young women in some way to start a small business venture in their area and enrich their lives.

I feel proud that my childhood passion to beautify others and make them happy is now helping the livelihood of others.

I consider my strength to be my husband and two children who have encouraged me in this field and   in many ways.

Over the last 20 years I have prepared brides for more than 500   events.    I consider it my greatest reward that I have not had a single   complaint in my service so far.

I am also proud that my hands have determined the beauty of thousands. I serves this as a service rather than a business. The saying in Tamil that ‘happiness is nothing more than seeing others happy. For me, beauty is nothing more than seeing others beautified.

I love   this beauty. I want to continue this journey. For that I look forward to the support and encouragement of organizations like Woman Icon.

Thanks
