Dr Booma Poolan Marikannan is an experienced Technologist and academician with 10+ years of experience as a trainer and an educator. Booma received her Doctorate in Computer Science and Engineering from SRM University, India and have worked in several reputable educational Institutions in the field of risk analytics and big data analytics. She also involved in various data science research projects during her academic career.

Dr Booma is currently working as a Lecturer at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation in Malaysia. Being an experienced academician and trainer, she engaged herself in corporate Training and several Data Science Projects.

Her research interests are towards the area of Computer Vision, Machine Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Image Processing, Big Data Analytics, Data Visualization, and Health care & IT. She is also an active IEEE and IET member. Furthermore, she is an active member of Asia Pacific Center of Analytics. Being a constant learner, she actively hunting new technologies in IT.

She has accomplished many data science related courses. She holds certification in .NET, Tableau Data Scientist badge, Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator program, Predictive Modelling Badge from SAS Academy for Data Science and Machine Learning Data Scientist from SAS Academy for Data Science. Additionally, she is precise in Big Data technologies such as Spark and Hadoop. Dr Booma is also acting as a researcher in both internal and external grants. She is also supervising Doctorate, Post graduate and Under graduate students in the field of Data Science alongside exhaustively delightful as an educator.

Now Dr Booma has been honoured with a most prestigious award “Outstanding Academician of the Year 2021” under the category of “Women's Teaching/ Research/ Scientist/ Professor/ Academic Leadership Awards” from Women Icon powered by Times Women. She is heartily grateful for the recognition she has received for her work because she firmly believes that everyone else nominated for this award is capable of winning this award.

She faced many challenges along the way here, but each of them strengthened her to transform her into the person she is today; A complete professional who knows exactly what she wants; One who never loses sight until she sets her eyes towards a goal and achieves it. It would not have been possible to win this award without the inspiration she received from her family, seniors, and her colleagues, for whom she has deep respect, she has the strength to challenge herself and excel at every stage.
