The Guru
Guru Sansitha also well known as ‘SANTHI
AKKA’ in her Indian classical dance journey which is also known as BHARATHA
NATYAM in Malaysia. She was born on 8th January 1974 as a second
child in her family. She works as customer service officer at University Malaya
Medical Center Kuala Lumpur. Guru Sansitha began her early journey into the
world of Divine Indian Art form of BHARATHA NATYAM at the age of 11years old
under the teaching of Guru Deivyanai.
With the blessing and support of her
Guru and her late mother Madam Ramayee, Guru Sansitha motivated more to took up
ODDISI CLASSES under MASTER GUNA and MASTER RAMLI IBRAHIM in 1992. MASTER RAMLI
IBRAHIM is a cultural icon who has performed internationally for more than
three decades. Admitting the fact that her love towards this classical dance is
purer and more unbeatable.
Guru Sansitha later on enrolled herself
under the stern guidance of NATYA KALARANI, NATYA RATNA, ADAL ARASI,KUMARI
KRISHNA of KRISHNA BHARATHA KALA ALAYAM in Malaysia. Being as a guru, she did
firm up her techniques, theory and knowledge to be a responsible BHARATA NATYAM
dancer and instructor.
Additionally, to further her skills and
talents, she also had participated into Dance Drama where she joined under Guru
Nadana Sironmani SMT. Kumudhini Sivanathan of Jeya Nritha Kalalayam Dance
Academy in Malaysia. Guru Sansitha never missed the opportunity and she took up
various major challenging roles in drama and dance all over around Malaysia and
India.
Apart from this, Guru Sansitha also had
performed in many temples, stage shows, TV2 shows, and Astro televisions
channels in Malaysia which is known as one of the popular channels there. In
June 27th 1998, Malaysia Ministry of Culture (KEMENTERIAN
KEBUDAYAAN) also invited Guru Sansitha for a peacock dance performance for the
grand KLIA opening ceremony. Besides these mind-blowing performances, on 11th
October 1999, she also had performed another amazing performance for Deepavali
Night Show organized by SAPP at Sandakan Sabah and lately another one in August
2023 at Sarawak Malaysia.
In Indian classical dance which is known
as BHARATHA NATYAM, there are two important stages of performance, one is called
as Salangai Poojai. Salangai Poojai is a ceremony where the dancers perform the
ritual of blessing for their first-time wearing ankle bells. It is also said
that it’s the initial stage in the dance journey. Whereas, the second important
stage will be called ARANGETRAM. Arangetram means ascending the stage, where
the dancer performs full concert by themselves for the first time. Guru
Sansitha completed her Arangetram on the year of 2000 and went on a dance tour
to SOUTH INDIA with her Guru. Her performances were mainly all-around India
especially at the olden and historical temples of india, such as Beasant Nagar
Vinayagar Temple Chennai, Chidambaram (TEMPLE THAT BUILD IN 10TH
CENTURY), Madurai Meenakshi Temple (TEMPLE THAT BUILD IN 9TH CENTURY),
and also Tanjavur Bragadesh Temple. Yet, her passion and worship to this art
never stop and still continued.
On 2nd September 2006, Master
Krisna Kumar & Mrs Gita Kumar of Krishnan Dance Academy at Puducherry
India, trained Guru Sansitha in the finer detail intricacies of this divine
art. To add further fantastic fact about Guru Sansitha, she is also a
multi-talented person. She had her vocal Harmonium classes under the late
Sangeetha Booshanam SMT Yogeswari Nagalingam Malaysia. Besides this, she also
had performed for Yoga Swamigal & Saint Thiaaraja’s prayers. In later
years, she continued attended for veena classes with SMT Vijayalechumy of
Suthilaya Music School.
Guru Sansitha also known as one of the
pioneer dancers of Era Academy. Era Academy had given her a great experience in
contemporary dances. She has also been called up as a Honourable Judge for a
variety of dance performances and also for a Thevaram contest. (Thevaram is
also known as Indian poetry classes). Guru Sansitha journey not stopping there,
she also acted in Malaysian movies, such as Dhusrajanam,Phuyal 18,Astro Ithu
Ungal Kathai,RTM Malaysia & Singapore TV.
As mentioned earlier, our Guru is also
well versed in Martial Arts, she learned Taekwondo under the guidance of Master
Tan Eng Seng that brought her to obtain her first BLACK BELT in 1997. Not to
forget to tell that all her journey starts at her age of 8years old. When she
turns 11years old, she was the primary school runner ‘ZONE BANGSAR RUNNER’
& , Hockey Captain. In her end of secondary school in the year 1991,
Guru Sansitha represent Wilayah Persekutuan Hockey Player.
At one part, Guru Sansitha said BHARATHA
NATYA is her pure inner soul peace. On 8th January 2001, with the
blessing from her late mother Mrs Ramayee Velasaamy and her Guru Kumudhini
Sivanathan, she was able to start up her classical classes to teach.
Being a director, dancer, teacher and
choreography of Leasya Laya Globe Arts, the school had registered a life member
under Malaysian Bharatha Natya Sabah, Transnational Association of Arts,
Culture & Sports or well known as TRAACS INTERNATIONAL and Bridge Academy
of Chennai India. Followed by, she completed her Elamani diploma in Bharatha
Natya under Bridge Academy – Chenna India. On the other hand, Guru Sansitha
also has been awarded as Nithya Jyothi and Natya Mayuri by Jeya Nirtha Kala
Alayam Dance Academic Malaysia.
In 2023, Guru Sansitha has become the
judge of Transnational Association of Arts, Culture & Sports at Cambodia.
She also still ongoing doing performance together with her academy students at
many places and country for auspicious days at temple, wedding ceremony and
also opening ceremony for some events.
Being as a dedicated teacher and guru,
Guru Sansitha will never easily give up on her students on any situation that
will occur. She will always ensure her students glow and grow together. There
is two of her school Salangai Poojai Ceremony was done at Chennai India,
Chidambaram in the year of 2011 and 2018. At Chidambaram Guru Sansitha and some
of her students had performed for Natyanjali event where there will be 2000
dancers dance together Infront the temple and they gained Guinness world record
for that wonderful achievement. In fact, it doesn’t stop there, they also
gained another Guinness world record in the year 2021 where she and her 23
students participated for a choreographed dance online.
Finally, but not the least, as a lovable
and kind teacher of Leasya Laya Globe Arts, she does express her love by giving
free classes to those kids that are not affordable to pay the fee, also
donations and support to the temples as much as can.
Guru Sansitha promise to her Guru and
her mother that she will carry on with this art until her last breath and will
definitely pass to the younger generation to be carry forward after her. She
also would like emphasis here that this classical dance can be learn by
everyone and at any age. There is no age limit and no body size required. When
there is a will there will be always a way. If you wished to learn this, come
