I am Lenika Priyadarshani Dharmarathne from Colombo Sri Lanka. First of all I would like to pay my gratitude to ‘Women Icon powered by Times Women’ prestigious award title, “Young Women Leadership Award”. Actually I am feeling so proud and so excited when I receive your confirmation email. I firmly believe that this award will help me to continue my journey forward.

It is not a lie that my experience of nearly 19 years of career has put me in this position. Victory, breakdowns as well as bitter experiences made my journey meaningful. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Sri Lankans, including a friend of mine, and my family members who have been instrumental in my success.

I started my career as a researcher when I turned to 20 years in my life. I gained a small salary however the experience was immense. The experience I gained then made me eligible to hold senior positions in large companies. One thing I strongly believe is that education as well as past experience helps a lot in making life successful. 

I can describe myself as a visionary business leader with strong commercial acumen and a proven track record in driving results and an all-rounded experience in sales & marketing, budgeting, operations, supply chain, commercial and financial acumen. Success pillars of career life are strong communication skills, team work, planning and dedication

I served different industries in Sri Lanka such as Social research, vehicle industry, education, insurance, and consultancy.  I hold several senior positions in different industries like Marketing Manager, Research Manager, Customer Care Manager, Registrar, Senior Consultant and Director. It is not easy to achieve career goals as an employee while playing the role of mother, wife and daughter.  Being a South Asian country female civilian, many challenges were intrinsic with my career. Always, I had to struggle with time, tradition, customs and attitudes.  All those obstacles encouraged me to move towards my goal.

I completed my school education from Devi Balika Maha Vidyalaya in Colombo. Then I entered the University of Peradeniya, Faculty of Agriculture and was able to achieve a Bachelor of Science degree with a Second Class.  Few years later I obtained my Master degree from University of Kelaniya for Economics. I understood the importance of administration when running a business. To widen my knowledge I joined Cardiff Metropolitan University –United Kingdom and obtained a Master of Business Administration. At present I am a doctoral candidate for PhD in University of Sri Jayewardenepura Sri Lanka. 

I am a writer. I have already published two books in the Sinhala language. One is a poem book and short story book. I enjoy writing because that is the one way to release the pressure inside me and share thoughts with others. 

In Sri Lanka, poverty is a major challenge of the society. Especially women in remote areas are helpless financially as well as socially. I conducted helping hand programmes to develop their lifestyles through Rathne Management Services. Women empowerment was my core objective rather than material support. 

Don't be happy with what you get, Go ahead and get what you want without hesitation. But keep in mind that what makes this world beautiful are love, kindness and mercy.

Finally, I am known by the public as a manager, a leader, a writer, a lecturer, or anything however I feel I am as a human. Nature expects from me to serve the world, save the world.
