PROFILE: DR LESEDI GAEEMELWE

Dr Lesedi Gaeemelwe is a multi award winning children's author, teacher and arts enthusiast from Botswana.  She is very happy to receive the Inspiring Women Achiever Award 2025 by Women Icon, powered by Times Women and World Women Council.

Her debut children's book Little Ngwana Stories was launched in November 2020 which has attracted accolades and opportunities to serve children locally and internationally through regular book reading sessions including weekly reading adventures at the Gaborone Children's Library through Botswana National Library Services under the Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture. 

She also holds quarterly reading sessions with children at Ramacity, Gauteng, RSA.

The book got approved by the Gauteng Education Department (Republic of South Africa, Provincial Government)as reading material for school libraries in the academic year 2024/2025, for both the English version and the Setswana translations.

Little Ngwana Stories translations include Braille by the Mochudi Resource Centre for the Blind and Hindi by Bible Society of India. Her other children's stories are featured in various anthologies including The Peculiar Tree by Gaborone Book Festival featuring her fictional story titled 'Stars Draw Near' 

She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Management) from the University of Botswana, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Botswana, an MBA in International Business from AMITY University (India), a PHD Honoris Causa in Children's Literature from the International Internship University (India) & a Doctor of Letters from Prowess University, Delaware, USA.

As an influential writer & creative her quotes have been published in prestigious local & international publications such as Botswana Vision 2036 & Employee Africa.

Her poetry has been featured in international anthologies including:

2. Chronicles from Africa 2022

3.African Poetree Collection 2023

Her Children's fictional story titled 'Stars Draw Near'was selected to be read at the International Gaborone Book Festival 2022 and is now lined up for Botswana National Online Children's Literary Project by the Mastercard Foundation.

She is the  former editor of Colourful Chronicles Magazine and now a columnist for Resurrect Magazine & Y-News_Digital International.

She serves as Chief Judge at the Botswana Women Achievers Awards and sits in the Youth for Christ Botswana National Board of Directors. She is the 2023/2024 Image Magazine Global Brand Ambassador. She is the former President of KASAPA Society, and former chairperson of KASA Awards. As a passionate activist of child safety she serves as Secretary of Ban Pitbulls in Botswana Campaign. She serves as Tribe Leader for Southern African Region in The African Writers Tribe and is also Botswana’s Coordinator for the Panorama International Literature Festival 2025 for the Global Writers Capital Foundation.

As a public speaker and moderator of note, she has done coaching at the Miss Unified Botswana boot camps, moderated Resurrect Magazine high tea talks and done motivational talks at OYC Arts Konnect seminars among other engagements.

She is a public servant employed as a business subjects teacher at Kgale Hill CJSS.

Lesedi was born and raised in Botswana’s capital city Gaborone and spent a majority of her teenage years in a nearby town named Lobatse. She is the second born child brought up in a nuclear family of five including her father, mother, elder brother and younger sister. Her hard work and dedication to service stem from values instilled in her by her parents, especially her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ guided by her mother who through example modeled a life devoted to Godly Christian principles leading to Lesedi deciding to follow Christ from the tender age of ten years old.

Lesedi is extremely pleased and honoured to receive the 2025 Inspiring Women Achiever Award by Women Icon powered by Times Women and World Women Council. This prestigious awards will take her inspirational contributions to another level and advance her to give back more to the community.
