Professor S.W.G.K.Bulankulama has bagged Excellent Professor Award of the Year

Professor Dr. S.W.G.K. Bulankulama to be the title winner of the Excellent Professor of the Year Award 2020-2021. In her position as Professor in Economics, Prof. Bulankulama was employed in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka from 15.07.2004. She completed her first Degree BA (Special) Degree in Economics with a first-class pass from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura in Sri Lanka, MSSc in Economics from the University of the Kalaniya in Sri Lanka and, Ph.D. in Business and Management from the Management and Science University (MSU) in Malaysia.  She has won the Academic Excellence Award from Management and Science University in Malaysia on 29th February 2020. Prof. Bulankulama was promoted to Professor in Economics at 40 years of age and being the youngest professor of the field of Economics in Sri Lanka.

During her tenure with the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, Prof. Bulankulama proved her capabilities to be a team leader, with her dedicated work on teaching, research, and administration as the Head of the Department; Department of Social Science since 2010. She did an excellent job in this position and pioneered the establishment of the Department of Economics in 2019.

Despite being mother of three children, she effectively scheduled and managed several staff members to maintain efficient department operation and handled each stressful situation with the heavy workload of students and other professionals. She can get her students and staff to relax and effectively perform to the targets for which one of the events was offering her services as the Conference Chairperson for first Undergraduate Research Symposium of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in Rajarata University of Sri Lanka in 2020.

Professor Bulankulama is an excellent researcher who is providing her services as a member of the Editorial Boards among are Sri Lanka Journal of Business Economics (SLJBE), Department of Business Economics, University of Sri Jayawardhanepura, Noble International Journal of Economics and Financial Research of Noble Academic Publisher, Rajarata Journal of Social Sciences, Conference Proceeding in BIOFIN 4th International Conference,  Rajarata University of Sri Lanka, International Journal of Economics, Finance and Management Sciences, Science Publishing Group in the USA, Scientific review board member, Crown Block Consultant in the USA.

She was the leading consultant of the Sustainable Development Integrated Project in North Central Province that can be used for the smooth operation of the North Central Province in Sri Lanka from 2020. Professor Bulankulama is always willing to offer her capacity and dedication and excellent support with the many consultancies nationally and also internationally.

She always strives to study new aspects of teaching, research and project management and has a strong desire to update her knowledge continuously which was recognized with her national and international publications. Her writing and verbal communication on “The impact of Covid 19 on Sri Lankan Economy” is shown in her Excellency in 2021. This drive comes from her passion to provide the very best services for her client finally to the Sri Lankan society and Professor Bulankulama to be a great asset to the Society.  

She thanked her supporters of her journey, especially her Parents, all Teachers, and her Ph.D. Supervisor Prof. Dr. Ali Khatibi in MSU, Malaysia who guided me to success as an Academician.  She is very proud of winning the title of the “Excellent Professor of the Year Award 2020-2021”.from Women Icon powered by the World Women Council and affiliated with Times Women. The Women Icon Award is a prestigious honour given to women who have made significant contributions to society that will help to encourage her career development and get recognition as Professor nationally and internationally. Finally, she thanked Rajarata University of Sri Lanka for making her a Professor in Economics in this world. Her message to all the women is getting the target within a timeframe and dedicating and working effectively.
