“When I started my career in event management two decades ago – it was a completely male-dominated industry.  I had no female role-models, and definitely no married women with children (like myself), who I could look to for inspiration and guidance. I realized the only way forward was to blaze my own path. My legacy has been building a cadre of strong capable women who are revolutionizing the entertainment industry.

Till date, I have mentored and provided training for 500+ young women. This award is an honor and validation of my efforts. This recognition is not just mine, but belongs to the thousands of unsung heroines across India who are working towards building their own legacy. Winning an international award is a big boost to our brand and it is a great way of differentiating our company from competitors and will send out positive signals to the potential customers.

I’m absolutely thrilled to receive this award and my special thanks to Women Icon powered by Times Women and World Women Council (WWC) for conferring  “Outstanding Women Entrepreneur Award- Pioneer in the entertainment industry “. I would like to dedicate this award to my team, my faculty, my friends, my family and especially to my daughter Kaavya Krishna who is a great pillar of strength and support “.

BIOGRAPHY:

Latha Krishna’s story started with a life-changing event: her wedding. After marriage, she was shocked to find that there were very few avenues to encourage and empower married women. Determined to change this, and provide women a platform to showcase their talents, she co-founded one of South India’s most iconic events - Mrs. Chennai in the year 2000. This was the country’s first pageant for married women. She has since then carved an exclusive niche for herself as an entrepreneur focused on organizing innovative and interactive events with a strong social component and message and public platforms to empower women across the country.

MAKING CHENNAI THE NEW GLAM CAPITAL! THE ROAD TO THE GUINNESS WORLD RECORD! Dr. Krishna, is the CEO of IRIS GLAM, was awarded the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD in 2019 for STAGING A FASHION SHOW WITH MAXIMUM NUMBER OF MODELS ON A SINGLE STAGE

After 2 decades in the entertainment industry DR.Krishna noticed a glaring market need for training programs with multi- disciplinary content to empower aspiring media professionals to be camera and stage ready. Programs related to the glamour industry were only offered piece-meal often making it challenging for aspirants to obtain comprehensive training to make them industry ready.

2018-IRIS GLAM is the first program in India which integrates comprehensive training for the glamour industry alongside personality development and communication skills in a fully integrated holistic curriculum, spanning skills sets as diverse as dance, make up, styling, communication skills, personality development, persona branding, nutrition, fitness ramp walking etc. rolled into a specially designed 8-week program. All faculty mentors are industry leaders with strong networks in the industry and constantly iterate the curriculum to keep up with market trends. 1000+ students have benefited from IRIS GLAM since its inception in 2018.

In 2019 IRIS GLAM, in association with Naturals - India's No.1 Hair and Beauty Salon are awarded the Guinness World Record ‘for organizing a fashion show with most number of models (386) to walk the ramp continuously. IRIS GLAM trained 700 students through this initiative IN 2020020 New venture IRIS STUDIOS was launched.

The perfect venue for meetings, conferences, training sessions, dance classes, photo shoots and choreography lessons. The launch of IRIS STUDIOS fills a much needed gap by providing space for a range of activities. It comes as a blessing for companies and individuals looking for an all inclusive venue to conduct their activities. A virtual ’hall 'n' all' it comes equipped with all the facilities to conduct successful sessions in training. Spread over a 1500 sq ft area with air conditioning and ample parking space it is located in a prime area.

SOCIAL IMPACT:

Latha ensures that her events also support and help raise awareness for social causes like health, education and elder-care. She is a -time supporter of Hope Foundation & ARK India Foundation - homes for HIV infected women and children for the past twenty years.  Exclusive charity events have been conducted for the Hope foundation. Other organizations supported include the Dignity Foundation which focuses on elder-care and provides hope and happiness to senior citizens.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP, PERSONAL INTEGRITY AND INFLUENCE:

A portion of the monetary proceeds from all the events organized by Dr.Krishna are donated to various organizations to help further social causes like health, education and elder-care. Dr. Krishna is a Pink Ambassador facilitating the cause of cancer detection and prevention. For this cause, she takes part in rallies and visits colleges to create awareness about breast cancer. She is a strong believer in the work of the Hope Foundation, an organization that runs a home and school for HIV infected women and children.  She worked on exclusive charity events, marketing materials and fundraisers for Hope Foundation

BUILDING A LEGACY:

Since 2000, Latha Krishna has provided training for over 500 students from different colleges in south India in the field of event management, marketing and media relations under the banner of Iris Events. She is a visiting faculty in leading educational institutions where Event Management is taught as a skill course for students to make a career for themselves.

EDUCATION:

DrKrishna holds a Graduate degree in commerce from The University of Madras and an MBA (Marketing Management) from Loyola Institute of Business Administration Chennai. In addition, she was one of the few women entrepreneurs selected to attend an Executive Education Program in Management for Women Entrepreneurs at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, sponsored by Goldman Sachs. In 2016 she received an Honorary Doctorate in Event Management from University of Berkley.
