Overview

I am Nirma Sadamali Jayawardena. First, I would like to thank “Woman Icon powered by Times Woman”  for offering me this award titled “Woman Leadership Excellence Award” in 2021 and it is an honour to receive this prestigious award.

Let me share a few words about myself with you. So, I am currently a full time PhD student at Griffith University, Australia. I completed BSc in Business Management with first-class Honours from the National School of Business Management, Sri Lanka and completed MBA in International Business from the University of Colombo. I received Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship and Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship in 2018 to pursue my PhD studies.

Now let me share my social contribution with you. So, I am the founder of “Learn & Listen to Music” YouTube Channel in Sri Lanka. I started this channel  to support Sri Lankans (from kid to adult) to learn both piano and organ by providing online tutorials for popular Sinhala, English, and Hindi songs. From my childhood onwards, I was very keen on playing both piano and organ. I had to learn music from several music teachers by attending classes physically as those days the technology was not advanced and online learning was impossible. However, I learned several music techniques from more than 10 different music teachers (eastern music and western music). So, this channel is an attempt of sharing that music knowledge, freely with anyone who is interested in music as a hobby. So, more than a learning process, I consider ‘Music’ as something which is enjoyable. After coming to another country, away from my family, I realised that music is a good medicine for relaxation and  to reduce loneliness. People specially with tight busy schedules should use music to relax themselves and as a stress releasing method. Most of the people do not have time to attend music classes physically, therefore I am providing online lessons via my YouTube channel to those who would like to entertain  themselves using some music. Different people have different music tastes. Some prefer Sinhala old songs, modern songs, Hindi songs  and English songs. So, I am trying my level best to cover all these aspects through my YouTube channel which is a very difficult initiative.

Finally, I would like to end this by thanking my parents, my elder sister, my husband and all my family members and friends who were always beside me and helping me. You encouraged, supported, and inspired me to strive for excellence in all my endeavours.
