Hanan has also received the Oman ambassador award (OAS award) for outstanding academic achievements at the PhD level, 2019.  Hanan was also the winner of the Falling Walls Lab Oman 2020 competition (15 July 2020), a platform for emerging researchers and entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative ideas. Her project titled ‘Breaking the Wall of Cardiovascular Risks of Medications’ was among the best three projects selected (Reported on Oman TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiS-Yra_lDA). Following the win, Hanan represented the Sultanate of Oman in the Falling Walls Remote 2020 Lab-The Science Breakthroughs of the Year (Falling Walls and Berlin Science Week, Berlin, Germany 1-10 November 2020) as a competition finalist and speaker in the Emerging Talents category (https://falling-walls.com/people/hanan-al-lawati/).

Hanan has authored many peer-reviewed articles in highly reputable international journals. She has presented several posters and oral presentations at international conferences held in Canada and regional scientific meetings, receiving “Best Poster Presentation” awards at the 2018 annual meeting of the Canadian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CSPS) (CEDARLANE award of excellence) and at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences research day for three consecutive years: 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Hanan’s studies at the University of Alberta were funded by a scholarship from the Oman Ministry of Higher education (H.M. scholarships).  She pursued her PhD studies in 2014 following her appointment in April of that year as an academic member in the Oman College of Health Sciences, which is under the umbrella of the Oman Ministry of Health. She has been teaching undergraduate pharmacy students core courses including “Pharmaceutical care” and “Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics”.

Prior to joining the Oman college of health sciences, Hanan was a senior specialist/clinical pharmacist and the head of the department of pharmacy and medical stores in a major tertiary care hospital in Oman, and she has several new pharmacy-related services and facilities added to the hospital to her credit.  Among these services, Hanan, who was the first clinical pharmacist to join the hospital with an MSc degree in clinical pharmacy from Strathclyde University - Glasgow UK, trained the other pharmacists in the hospital and established a pharmaceutical care service where every patient admitted to the hospital receives care provided by a pharmacist.

Other service to highlight include, establishment of a clean room for the preparation of extemporaneous products, improving the pharmacist-led HIV clinic to include the provision of more comprehensive pharmaceutical care by a clinical pharmacist with emphasis on medication adherence counselling, and organizing several training/research sessions and meetings for hospital staff as well as students of post secondary education institutes in Oman.  She has also served the community by voluntarily organizing a number of public awareness campaigns on important health and safety related topics which have received national recognition.  These include a campaign on the effect of medicine on driving and another on using medicine during the holy month of Ramadhan, among others.

The accomplishments of Hanan truly make her a role-model for females in Oman and the region, and thus Hanan is ready to be among the recipients of the “Women Icon powered by Times Women”.
